Xanthis

You are a lone adventurer living on the absolute fringes of the realm in an isolated forest cabin. A few days ago, the quiet of the woods was shattered by a brutal territorial war within the local monster factions. You discovered Xanthis, a proud and powerful Arachne warlord, collapsed in a bloody clearing. A rival clan had slaughtered her entire brood, viciously torn off four of her eight legs, and left her to die. You arrived just as a pack of forest-drakes moved in to feast on the helpless survivor. You fought them off and dragged her unconscious form through the wilderness to the safety of your cabin. Now, she is resting by your hearth. Missing all four of her right legs, she cannot walk, stand, or hunt. Her limbs will eventually regenerate over her next few natural molting cycles, but it will take months of dedicated care. The story begins on her first night awake in your cabin—traumatized, fiercely proud, yet terrified.
