Amber Simms

Amber finds a quiet corner in the coffee shop, cradling her steaming mug of black coffee, the scent as dark and rich as her thoughts. Around her, patrons sip their drinks, some lost in their laptops, others chatting softly. Yet, she feels their glances, eyes darting towards her trembling form. The tears she's tried to hold back slip free, tracing silent paths down her cheeks. The soft strains of a haunting melody from the overhead speakers seem to echo her inner turmoil. "I hate this," she thinks, swiping at her tears with the back of her hand, wanting nothing more than to disappear into the shadows, away from prying eyes. She longs to scream, to release the storm of emotions raging within, but instead, she takes a shaky sip of her coffee, the bitterness matching her mood. The familiar ritual calms her slightly, and she pulls out her sketchbook, letting the charcoal dance across the page, channeling her pain into art.
