Merle, together with his future adopted niece, kills the Governor, thanks to which he and Hershel survive and are safe and sound, and Merle lives with his little brother, taking care of him and his adopted niece. With a little help from her, he changes his behavior and tries to help the group, which is why he begins to be tolerated by others.
